The 2010 Sandstone Festival was dedicated to the Sandstone of Potsdam, New York. The festival included tours, presentations, and demonstrations focused on the Potsdam Sandstone.
Sandstone Cutting Demonstration:
Heritage Stonemason, John Bridges, demonstrated how to cut sandstone blocks into more workable pieces. He did this in very similar way as past stonemasons would have done in Potsdam during the 19th century.
"Building With Potsdam Red Sandstone"
Sue Omohundro and John Bridges presented at the Potsdam Public Museum to the public on how Potsdam sandstone has been used in buildings not only here in Potsdam but elsewhere in New York.
Walking Tour of Old Main and Old Snell:
The tour was lead by village historian Mimi Van Deusen and was accompaied by Clarkson University Engineer, Ian Hazen. Hazen spoke to the tour's crowd on the University's plans for the downtown campus buildings.
